Happy Square Root Day!

I didn't know about this big holiday either.  Square Root Day happens when both the day of the month and the month are the square root of the last two digits of the year.  March is full of surprises!  Who knew?  The next square root day (for all you inquiring minds) is not until 4/4/16 so you'd better be whooping it up tonight!

Did I mention that I really enjoyed my little February project ?  It certainly made the month pass by much faster than I've ever remembered.  By documenting each day it made me think about the day and not just breeze through it.  It helps to take time to notice the little things in life.  The things that give it meaning.  I enjoyed how some days the colors, the lighting, or the subjects in the two photos would somehow coordinate with each other ...in a small way.  And as an added bonus I was happy to learn a few new features on my camera as well.  I would definitely do this again.

Last but not least I learned that I love the smell of hyacinths far more than those paperwhites.  Don't get me wrong, I love the look of paperwhites and that whole project but the smell was not so great.  These sweet hyacinth, now we're talking!  Um, I mean smelling.

February 28 :: Everyday = In + Out

In ::  { Happy February 28th! }

In honor of the big day we have celebration donuts!  What?  You've never heard of such a thing?!  Four complete weeks of February have been chalked up in history and my Everyday = In + Out project is now complete.  So that brings us to donuts.  There are 3.  One for me.  One for Gordy.  One for good measure or it could be for the start of the 3rd month tomorrow.  Donuts are not a common food item here at Pretty Simple.  It's just too dangerous.  I can't even begin to tell you how long I stood in the bakery department at the grocery store!  Contemplating.  Frosted cookies?  Buttercream frosted cupcakes?  Pastries?  Rolls?  Donuts?  How many?  I mean, get on with the show already!  I've got a sweet tooth from way back when and I usually just put on my tunnel vision goggles when I pass by the bakery goods but today was a special day that deserved some recognition.  I'm really proud of myself that these actually made it all the way home! ;)

 

Out ::  "O" yes!  It was yet another beautiful, crisp, and sunny February day.  A very good day indeed.  So long February.  See you next year!

February 27 :: Everyday = In + Out

Out ::  Loads of sunshine today and everything is sparkly white again. 

 

February 26 :: Everyday = In + Out

In ::  Snow and boots.  And more snow.  The wind has arrived and it looks like we are going to be snowed in tonight.  That broom won't stand a chance out there.

 

Out ::  This photo was taken this afternoon.  It's crazy dark.  If you click on the photo you'll notice a little birdie that dropped by for an afternoon treat.  :) 

 

February 25 :: Everyday = In + Out

In ::  This little windup owl was unearthed this past weekend when Jack was here.  Mr. Owl goes way back.  1977 to be exact.  When I was just a kid.  That's one wise, old owl. 

Out ::  Tonight's sunset.  I'm pretty sure that today's nice weather is the calm before the storm.  There's a winter storm warning issued for tomorrow.  More snow! 

February 24 :: Everyday = In + Out

In ::  A little snack.  Grapefruit water replacing the old lemon standby and I must say, it is wonderful!  Oh, and a few apricot kernels that I shared with Gordy but he's not too crazy over the taste of these.  They are slightly bitter with a sweet, crunchy taste.  I like them but most likely I'll stick to my other favorites.  Now, how about another sip of that grapefruit water? 

 

Out ::  Gordy is fabricating his very own cross-country ski trail groomer.  He needed a few more details so we headed to the nearest county park trail for measurements.  It was such a beautiful day!

 

February 23 :: Everyday = In + Out

Out ::  Clear blue, frosty morning.

February 22 :: Everyday = In + Out

In ::  The aftermath of yesterday's cupcakes.  Meet the Soda Pop Bandit.  This sneaky tiger moved into town looking for soda pop and we had to call in the village sheriff to restore order in Cupcakeville.  After a bit of a frosting scuffle the locals here were able to enjoy those chocolaty cupcakes afterall.  I know, I know... it's so hard to believe something like this could happen at the edge of a small town.  There's always an adventure here!

Out ::  Cat tracking.  Jack was in search of Mrs. Wilson yesterday.  I found "his" tracks today.   

February 21 :: Everyday = In + Out

In ::  Loads of fun inside with chalk, building forts, making chocolate frosting and chocolate cupcakes (by request), super yummy meatballs, games of pick-up-sticks, making friends with the cat, digging in the toy box, spying on Gordy, watching a movie, transforming the couch into a jungle gym, typing letters to Mom & Dad, and everything else in between!  Jack, I can't wait until you come over again!

 

Out ::  Somehow a magic layer of snow fell just in time for Jack's arrival.  We did some serious sledding, hill climbs, adventures in the woods, practiced writing in the snow, watched 2 eagles fly over us, and even found time for a snow angel. 

February 20 :: Everyday = In + Out

In ::  Someoooooooooooone's coming for a sleepover tonight!

Out ::  It's Jack and good times are sure to be had both in and out!  (Although by this photo you might think it's really Johnny Baxter from Snowball Express!)
